Whole Foods Market

Whole Foods Market

If you haven't been over to the new Whole Foods Market in Tustin, be sure to plan a visit. (It's in the District shopping center near the corner of Barranca and Jamboree.) As big or bigger than a Wal-Mart or Costco, it's a far cry from the neighborhood supermarket. With wine tasting bars, coffee shops, cases of fresh-made sorbet, and a couple of eateries inside, it's become a meeting place and social hangout as much as a place to grab the fixins for dinner. The extensive selection of cheese and artisan bread will make native Europeans feel right at home, and new moms will love the selection of organic baby products. The employees go beyond being helpful... they are knowledgeable, caring, and seem truly passionate about the items they sell. If you want a sample of anything, just ask; bring your own shopping bag & you'll not only help the environment, you'll get five cents off your bill. About the only things missing are chemical-sounding artificial ingredients--- the store keeps the shelves stocked with what's natural, local, and usually organic. Just one word of warning--- parking is less than plentiful and the place can get crowded around lunch or dinner. Monday and Tuesday mornings it's least crowded.

Japanese Weekend Maternity

We stumbled upon this amazing store by accident a few years ago. We were looking to buy a warm winter coat for our daughter. She lived in snow country and her first child was due at the end of December. We were just about to give up on our fruitless quest for the perfect coat when we wandered into a small boutique in Fashion Island, Newport Beach. And there it was-- the perfect coat: A classic look that would never be out of sytle, dressy enough for the office, well made. And convertible. The ingenious design allowed it to be worn serveral ways. It could fit beautifully around an expansive tummy at nine months, as well as flattering a mom's after-baby figure for many winters to come. Since then both our daughters have become big fans of Japanese Weekend.
